BUCKLAND, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — There’s a statewide municipal fiscal crisis, with expenses growing rapidly, state funding flat-lined, and property tax increases limited to 2.5% unless town’s vote for an override, budgets are strained.

The Town of Buckland is one of many considering a vote to override the 2.5% limit in order to cover projected deficits. Raising an additional $500,000 through property taxes would cover the deficit, replenish reserves, and protect against project increases in the following fiscal year.

If a $500,000 override passes, a current tax bill of $5,804 would rise to $6,335.
