UPDATE: Route 116 in Sunderland re-opened after accident that injured 11, killed cow

SUNDERLAND, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — An early-morning head-on accident on Amherst Road (Route 116) in Sunderland Thursday morning closed the roadway for a time. Sunderland police told Franklin County Now that the road was re-opened as of shortly after 9:00.

There have been reports of multiple injuries, as well as cows that were on the loose after the crash.

Franklin County Now will have more information once it has been provided by authorities.

UPDATE (2:48 p.m.): According to Sunderland Police, one cow was killed and 11 people were injured as a result of the accident. The injured were brought to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield, and Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton for treatment of various injuries.
